Standing United — CFPS AGM 2025 Reflections

Published On: October 7, 2025

On 26 July 2025, CFPS held its 54th Annual General Meeting at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House. The meeting began with a moving tribute by CFPS President Dr Wong Tien Hua in memory of the late Professor Cheong Pak Yean, whose legacy continues to shape and inspire generations of Family Physicians. His life was a beacon of compassion, wisdom, and service.

Honorary Treasurer Dr Low Lian Leng presented the annual financial report, highlighting a meaningful increase in investment in Family Medicine education — reflecting our unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of Family Physicians.

Members voiced concerns about what lies ahead following the recognition of FM as a specialty. In response, CFPS leadership reaffirmed that we will not let change divide us. Instead, we will work tirelessly to ensure that every Family Physician, regardless of practice setting, is supported, respected, and given fair opportunities to grow.

Dr Wong reminded us that this recognition is not an endpoint, but the beginning of a new chapter — one built on the dedication and quiet perseverance of those who came before us. It marks a meaningful step forward in how Family Medicine is understood and valued within the broader healthcare landscape. It is an opportunity to deepen our commitment to what truly matters: delivering compassionate, comprehensive care to our patients and supporting one another as a community of care.

In closing, Dr Wong called upon all of us to embrace this change not with fear, but with humility, courage, and collective purpose. Let this be a moment to come together — not as fragments, but as a family. Just as we have risen together through challenges before, we will face the future hand in hand, heart to heart. Together, cum scientia caritas, we will shape a stronger and more united Family Medicine. For our patients. For our profession. For one another.
