Category 1B
CME event providers may apply for FM accreditation under Category 1B. The CME Activity Coordinator (CME AC) must be a registered medical practitioner. Where an application is also submitted for assessment as FM Core CME, the CME AC must seek advice from an accredited FM CME Advisor. A list of accredited advisors is available at FM CME Advisors.
Applying for Category 1B CME Points in Family Medicine – Step-by-step Guide
1. SMC event accreditation
Apply for event accreditation via the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) website at SMC website.
Take note of the Event ID assigned upon completion of your application.
(A) Core FM CME applications
- Download the Category 1B application form.
- Complete all required information in the application form.
- Ensure Section C is duly completed and signed by an accredited FM CME Advisor.
- The CME Activity Coordinator may sign on behalf of the FM CME Advisor in hard copy only if authorised by the Advisor, provided that the Advisor has completed Section C and has been given a copy of the submitted form.
- Submit the completed form (signed by both the CME Activity Coordinator and the accredited FM CME Advisor) via email to xinyi@cfps.org.sg and qiyin@cfps.org.sg.
Important: Applications must be submitted at least one month before the event date. Late or incomplete submissions will be rejected. Please ensure the CME AC contact email is correctly provided. The College may request additional information where necessary.
(B) Non-core FM CME applications
No application form is required.
The SMC Secretariat will notify the CME provider of the CME points awarded and the outcome of the application. For queries, please contact the SMC Secretariat at SMC_CME@spb.gov.sg.
Use of CFPS Statement
Events are assessed by the College as Core or Non-core FM CME based on prospective information submitted by the CME Activity Coordinator. If the CME provider wishes to acknowledge CFPS involvement for events assessed as Core FM CME, the following statement may be used in full:
“This CME event is assessed by the College of Family Physicians Singapore to be a Core FM CME event based on prospective information submitted.”
No other statement implying endorsement or support by the College should be used. The College organises and co-organises CME activities under Categories 1A, 1B, 3A, and 3B, where the College name and logo are displayed. Information on such collaborations may be obtained from FM CME Advisors or directly from the College.
