As Healthcare Evolves, What Must Remain Constant?

More than a hundred Singapore Family Physicians and partners gathered on 23 May 2026 for the World Family Doctor Day Dinner hosted by the College of Family Physicians Singapore.

The evening was graced by Minister for Manpower Dr Tan See Leng, a fellow Family Physician whose longstanding contributions to Family Medicine continue to inspire many within the fraternity. The gathering reflected the strength and unity of the Family Medicine community, bringing together clinicians, educators, leaders and partners committed to advancing compassionate primary care in Singapore.

This year’s World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) World Family Doctor Day theme, “Compassionate Care in a Digital World”, felt especially timely.

Healthcare is rapidly evolving. Artificial intelligence, digital tools and new models of care are reshaping the way we practise medicine and support our patients. Yet amidst this transformation, the evening reminded us of something important: while healthcare may change, the heart of Family Medicine must remain constant.

In his address, CFPS President Dr Wong Tien Hua reflected that even as technology advances, we must continue to preserve the human element in Family Medicine — empathy, trust, professional identity and relationship-centred care.

These reflections resonate strongly with the ongoing conversations within Singapore’s Family Medicine community following the milestone SPCC 2026 conference, where colleagues across institutions came together to reflect on the future of primary care, innovation and the core values that define our profession.

As Family Medicine continues to evolve, may we continue to embrace innovation thoughtfully while remaining grounded in compassion, continuity and care for the communities we serve.

Cum Scientia Caritas.
