Galen Health
Galen Health
In Cycle 1, Galen was rated in our User Survey as the easiest system to get started into understanding CMSes, our User Survey in Cycle 2 sees a significant shift in responses with Galen being less easier to use, possibly with the new HealthierSG implementations. Our CMS Sutra team member (who has zero clinical experience) has tested the system and gotten a brief understanding of the Galen CMS clinic workflow. It is a system that comes with a modern User Interface that is quick to figure out on the basic clinic workflow. However, Galen may not have tackled the new HealthierSG features as well in Cycle 2.
Galen seems to have improved on some areas from Cycle 1, adding in a new 2FA SMS verification system, useful graphs like the Height & Weight for child national growth percentiles have also been exceptionally helpful for GP users. The new HealthierSG price difference calculators have also served clinics in better comparing prices between the original CHAS and HealthierSG chronic tier payments, this is exceptionally beneficial to both clinics and patients and gives the GP user confidence in recommending the best options for their patients, in our user survey, 84.6% of respondents rated this feature 3 and above out of a possible 5 stars, this is a good sign that the billing calculators that Galen offers is very functional calculator and it is a very important aspect for clinics as it rids off manual calculation work that saves a lot of nursing time.
However, there is still much to work on with the new and existing features. Similar to many CMSes, there is no true integration with NEHR and NIR, there are no direct contact switches within Galen CMS and users have to separately open another browser tab to access the NEHR and NIR portals to access data. Many users have also reported that the lack of autosaving accompanied by the occasional hang/freeze is a major pain point. In our User Survey. A sizable portion (46.2%) of Galen respondents rated the ability of the CMS to meet the requirements to help the clinic claim for annual service fees and incentives ≥2 stars out of a possible 5 stars. Our CMS reviewers mention that there have been instances of missing data when relogging, as well as lab results not flowing into NEHR which would be a great convenience for patient tracking, apart from the lack of a contact switch to NEHR directly.
There is a also a sizable portion (23.1%) of users in our User Survey that have scored the Galen CMS’s ability to apply price caps to whitelisted drugs ≥2 stars, one CMS Sutra reviewer has mentioned that the price caps are at times not updated which potentially affects bill sizes, this is a crucial area as clinics usually have to absorb these losses on the medication. ALPS delivery on the other hand works very well and functions smoothly with patients receiving drugs on time, as our reviewer further expresses. The CMS Sutra team wishes for all CMSes to be updated on latest whitelist drug prices to prevent clinics from taking in additional losses holding whitelisted drugs.
The Galen workflow still remains the quickest CMS system to adopt for clinics looking to transition from traditional methods of records keeping while serving the HealthierSG functions. We do hope to see progress and improvements in the HealthierSG features as much as the efforts made over the time between CMS Sutra Cycle 1 to Cycle 2, while managing the standards for the upcoming HealthierSG requirements to stay competitive in the SmartCMS market.
