Programme A Details
The aim
of the MMed (FM) is to train an echelon of family physicians who will be on par
with the hospital specialists and be able to take on the role of leaders,
trainers, and administrators in family medicine development.
Aims and
Objectives:
The overall training objective is to produce a professional and competent
family physician that has the following qualities (as defined in the Family
Medicine Training Logbook):
- Able to practice competently
and independently on his/her own
- Possess the necessary skills
to set up and maintain a practice either as solo or group practice
- Provide good primary care
with emphasis on health promotion, health education, disease prevention,
and chronic disease management. This would result in better primary
care, appropriate referral and usage of specialist services, better
health for the nation and reduce health care cost.
- Perform the role as a
doctor, health care coordinator, manager, teacher
- Able to pursue continuing
professional development on his/her own and in accordance to the
changing practice trends and advances
Eligibility:
- Full or conditional
registration with SMC or temporary registered with at least 1 year of
working experience in public hospital upon application deadline
- Successful in MOH BST
Selection Exercise
Course Overview:
Programme A consists of:
- Optional short attachments to General
Practice clinics, Child Guidance Clinic and Health Promotion
Board’s Youth Health Division.
- Compulsory
6-month Structured Training Programme in Primary Care
Component 1: Combined teaching sessions of Programme
A and C (mega session)
- 6 sessions each 2 hours for 6 months
Component 2: Clinical skills sessions
- 10 out of 12 sessions each 2 hours
Component 3: Clinical Case Conference
- 5 out of 6 sessions
Component 4: Audit Course Workshop
- 2 workshops a year
Component 5: Medical Ethics, Professionalism and Health Law Course
- 2.5 days
- 2 Weeks Advanced FM course
where foreign experts were brought in to impart his / her knowledge.
Other courses:
- MMed FM Revision Course - A
2-week full-time MMed Revision Course in FM, usually in August.
MMed (Programme A) Examinations:
The eligibility criteria for the MMed (FM) Examination are as follows:

Haemotology

Family Medicine and Continuing Care
6 months posting that are accepted at the following designated hospital
