Programme Syllabus

CLINICAL POSTING

A 1-month clinical posting (or its equivalent of 40 sessions) of sub-specialty postings, which can be done anytime during the 2-year course. The scope of sub-specialty postings that one can choose from includes:

 

Medicine sub-specialty:

·        Cardiology

·        Respiratory medicine

·        Endocrinology

·        Renal medicine

·        Oncology/haematology

·        Geriatric medicine

·        Dermatology

·        Gastroenterology

·        Psychiatry

·        Palliative care medicine

·        Emergency medicine

·        Sports medicine

 

Surgical sub-specialty:

·          General surgery

·          Orthopaedic surgery

·          Opthalmology

·          Otolarynogology

 

Family medicine hospital posting:

·          FMCC, SGH

·          Community hospital

 

Paediatrics posting

 

Obstetrics & Gynaecology posting

 

 

To enhance the training experience, there would be no restrictions posed on the number of different sub-speciality postings the trainee may choose to do.

 

CASE STUDIES

Trainees will select cases that they have managed in their practice.  Reflection and analysis on the cases selected will be done in the context of the principles and values of Family Medicine.  The trainee must demonstrate how the application of the principles of Family Medicine in the management of the cases has improved the quality of care.  Care co-ordination and integration between different health care providers must be demonstrated.

 

SHORT COURSES

These are short weekend courses that are organised by the trainees for themselves with the help of selected resource persons.  The course must be open to members of the College of Family Physicians Singapore as part of the peer review process.  The course must at least have 8 hours of teaching and training activities.  Each group will be assigned to lead in the organization of a short course.  The theme of the course must be approved by the appointed convening supervisor.  The courses will cover the three areas of medical pedagogy, research/evidence based medicine and care integration.

 

TEACHING

Trainees are expected to be actively involved in the teaching of family medicine to medical students and junior trainees.  In addition, trainees must be engaged in teaching Family Medicine in structured training programmes organized by the CFPS and log such activities.  A minimum of 10 sessions is required.

 

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Complete one research and/or an approved project which contributes to the advancement of Family Medicine within the FMFP training duration.

REVIEW PAPERS
Trainees must complete a minimum of 3 review papers on clinical subjects and present these during the monthly fellowship meetings
