AMC for FP Register

CFPS FAMILY MEDICINE MODULAR COURSE (FMMC) NOW RECOGNIZED FOR ENTRY INTO THE FAMILY PRACTICE REGISTER

Our College has received confirmation from the MOH that the Family Medicine Modular Course (FMMC) that we run for the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine program will be recognized as an accredited modular course for entry into the Family Practice Register for family doctors who qualify to enter based on their years of experience.

As announced by MOH earlier, the Family Physicians’ Register has been passed and there is a provision for fulfilling the entry requirements for senior doctors through the completion of 4 modular courses, or fewer depending on seniority. The details of how many modular courses will be confirmed at a later date.

The FMMC is open to all doctors. You can choose to do only the modules that you are interested in (subject to availability of training places). In preparation for this development, senior doctors who are considering entry to the register via this route may wish to start attending the FMMC and accumulating credits. For those who just wish to do their usual CME, they will also find that the FMMC is an excellent source of up to date knowledge that is very relevant to family medicine practice.

The new cycle of Family Medicine modular courses (FMMC) starts in August 2010 with one module every 3 months. In each module, there are 8 units of distance learning material and 4 afternoon face-to-face workshops where a 2 domain experts will discuss 4 case studies with course participants. The modular course is a requirement for doctors preparing for the GDFM Diploma Examination.

Besides GDFM trainees, the College is opening this FMMC as a continuing development programme for family doctors. As continuing CME courses, a certificate of attendance will be given for having attended 3 out of 4 workshop sessions.
