COLLEGE Digest - Issue 3/2011 (July 2011)
Editors: Dr Eu Tieng Juoh Wilson, Dr Leong Choon Kit, Dr Wong Tien Hua

On 25 June 2011, two important College events were held back to back: The 2011 Commencement Ceremony followed by the CFPS 40th Annual General Meeting.

The Commencement marks the start of the College academic training year. This year we welcome 97 trainees for the Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine (GDFM) programme and 15 doctors who are starting their Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) [MMed(FM)] Programme B course. A further 12 doctors are starting the Family Medicine Fellowship programme [FCFP(S)]. Dr Tan Chee Beng was the Guest-of-Honour and his speech is reproduced in this e-newsletter.

The 23rd Council of the College of Family Physicians Singapore was elected during the AGM. Elections are held biennially. The 23rd Council has a great mix of experience and new blood. The College is pleased to welcome new members to CFPS Council: Dr Tan See Leng who has taken up the role of Vice President; Dr Chng Shih Kiat, Dr Ang Choon Kiat Alvin, Dr Yee Jenn Jet Michael, Dr Siew Chee Weng and Dr Koh Choon Huat Gerald as new Council members.

A/Prof Lee Kheng Hock is the new President of the College. Dr Pang Sze Kang Jonathan continues his role as Honorary Secretary assisted by Dr Leong Choon Kit in a newly created post of Honorary Assistant Secretary. Dr Tan Tze Lee takes on the role of Honorary Treasurer and Dr Rukshini Puvanendran, Honorary Assistant Treasurer. We are pleased that Dr Lim Fong Seng, Dr Tham Tat Yean and Dr Eu Tieng Juoh Wilson will be continuing in their roles as Council members.

Council would like to acknowledge the enormous contributions to general practice and to the College by the outgoing President, A/Prof Goh Lee Gan. Indeed, this brief note does little to underline the vast and sentinel role that A/Prof Goh has played on behalf of Family Practice in Singapore over more than 20 years. We are glad A/Prof Goh continues to be a teacher in his role as the Director of the Institute of Family Medicine (IFM) in College.

We would also like to thank the following outgoing Council members for their contributions: Dr Chow Mun Hong, Dr Goh Choon Kee Shirley and Dr Wong Tack Keong Michael.

Once again, we would like to hear from as many of you as possible. Please get back to us via edigestfeedback@cfps.org.sg. The College Digest is also available on the college website
